PULSE is a platform created by SASW as an aggregator for great ideas, people and food. PULSE seeks to be a safe space for ideas to be shared, allowing networking of like minded individuals within and outside the Social Work profession. It seeks to spark ideas and actions for collaboration through human connections and networks.

SASW NEWS: CURRENT UPDATES TO SOCIAL DIMENSION

 

 

Dear Valued Readers,

Thank you for your kind patience thus far, and we apologize that we have not been posting articles regularly on our blog this year. We have been in a process of collating articles from the Social Service Community and have also interviewed a number of key social work professionals to gain further insights into their views of the social work profession.

For the coming weeks, SOCIAL DIMENSION ONLINE start to churn out regular articles. We would also need your support to submit your articles (Be it commentaries, research, or creative literature) for publication.

Also, look out for our new segment: the SOCIAL WORKER TOOLBOX! Social workers and helping professionals will be sharing forms and templates they have found useful in clinical work. Information shared is copyright free (unless otherwise stated). The aim of this endeavour is to set up a platform where social workers can share useful ways of working with their clients in various settings.

We are also looking for interested volunteers to be part of our editorial team. Tasks would include writing reports on social work related events, commentaries of social policies, interviews with professionals and key stakeholders in social service, and to source out articles from the social service community (social workers, helping professionals, social work students, etc).

SASW NEWS: Introducing the SASW EXCO 2011 - 2013

SASW NEWS: SASW unveils its 6 Strategic Pillars: S.O.C.I.A.L

On Thursday, 21 July 2011, The Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW) organised its 2nd symposium for social workers in celebration of its 40th Anniversary. The theme of the symposium was "The Role of Social Work Professionals in Nation Building", which recognises the critical role that will continue to be played by social workers in ensuring that no one is left behind as Singapore progresses. The symposium was attended by 450 social workers, and SASW also announced its work plans in its role as the national professional association that represents social workers in Singapore. 

Guest-of-Honour His Excellency President S R Nathan and Mrs Nathan were present to officiate the 40th Anniversary Symposium. Special guest Major General (NS) Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports also graced the occasion. 

 

SASW NEWS: CALLING FOR NOMINATIONS FOR OUTSTANDING SOCIAL WORKER AWARD 2011

The Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW), National Council of Social Service (NCSS) and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) are pleased to invite nominations for the Outstanding Social Worker Award (OSWA) 2011.

The Outstanding Social Worker Award aims to acknowledge and recognise outstanding social workers for their consistent and professional contributions towards the improvement of social service, healthcare or community sector in Singapore.

SASW NEWS: Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW) Turns 40!

On July 21, 2011, the Singapore Association of Social Workers organised a symposium at the Concorde Hotel to celebrate SASW's 40^th Anniversary. Dr Elena Lui, with Exco’s support, invited SASW past presidents to give a message each on his/her reflections in the development of the social work profession in Singapore, and of the Singapore Association of Social Workers.

The theme was to highlight the mission: “To build a strong body of social work professionals for the betterment of our society”. These messages are now posted for our members, colleagues and friends to read and reflect, to cherish the past and champion a new era of social work profession.

 

SASW NEWS: LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION

Dear Members,

In organizing this year's SASW 40th Anniversary Symposium, SASW would like to celebrate our journey in the last 40 good years and to showcase the best local practices and new innovative methods in social work.  In line with this celebration, to infuse new vitality and vibrancy into the image of SASW, the Singapore Association of Social Workers SASW Executive Committee embarked on a logo design contest earlier this year to invite people to design a new logo to represent the vision and values of SASW. Thanks for your enthusiasm in sending in your entries as we have received many promising entries for this year’s SASW logo design contest.  We certainly appreciate the time and effort contestants have put into the conceptualization and design of the logo design submissions.

Thesis title: A changing face for social work: globalisation, internationalisation and the Monash BSW in Singapore 2004 - 2006

 

 

Abstract

 

This research was born out of innovative work undertaken by the Department of Social Work at Monash University, the first Australian social work education programme to undertake the delivery of an Australian Bachelor of Social Work at an offshore location. Accreditation to deliver the degree of Bachelor of Social Work in Singapore was gained from the Australian Association of Social Workers and the Singapore Association of Social Workers, the first Australian social work education programme to gain accreditation from two professional bodies.

Policies on development and economic growth have increased the adverse effects of population ageing - by, for instance, reinforcing urbanisation trends, labour migration from underdeveloped/developing nations to more developed nations, and changing retirement patterns.
